size: 30” H X 24” W

BUBBLES is fabricated out of World War II era surplus instrument lenses with either aviation or nautical application. The large lenses would magnify a small compass mounted beneath to a 6” diameter. The medium sized lenses were mainly used as instrument gauges such as fuel and altitude. The small lenses were toggle-switch light displays.

All of the lenses flip what the viewer is seeing. The perimeter is made of chandelier prisms and when placed in direct sunlight can project a ten-foot high rainbow on the opposing wall. Created using the Tiffany copper foil technique with solder fill. It employs a welded metal frame to support the heavy glass and solder. A custom oak frame has been constructed over the metal frame and given a faux bronze finish. The piece was sold to a private collector.
