Luxfer Lantern

LUXFER LANTERN was created using 4”X 4” glass prism tiles from the 1890’s. The tiles were originally used in storefront transoms to bring natural light into spaces before electricity was commonplace.

The tiles have a saw tooth prism pattern designed to direct and amplify sunlight. A lantern was fabricated using eight of the tiles and contains a single light bulb.  The lantern is surrounded by a clear mouth blown Venetian bowl and capped by a nickel plated shower head from the 1920’s.
